Textbooks on the cheap

The most awesome thing you can do now that it's 2012: celebrate the fact that the world didn't end last year. There wasn't an alien attack, we didn't spiral into a black hole, and our sun didn't explode. So congratulations, you get to continue your education! But a new year means a new semester, which also means you need new books. Fortunately, buying them doesn't have to break the bank anymore. Remember:

It pays to compare your options.

Don't run straight to the campus bookstore. Their prices are... bulky. Our textbook marketplace, on the other hand, will do something most stores won't: help you shop for less. Compare new, used, and rental versions of books you need at prices you can afford.

  • Save up to 90% on over 15 million titles.
  • Free shipping both ways on rentals, including return shipping if you change or drop classes.
  • There are over 18,000 verified sellers competing to sell their books for less.

Buy old editions.

Email your professor and see if old editions of textbooks will work. The page numbers might be different, but they cost significantly less.

Want your books for free? Use the library.

Seriously. Check out your local public library. They may not have every book, and it's not as convenient as owning the book yourself, but hey, it's free.

Tip of the week
The average college student spends $693 a year on textbooks.

That's according to Student Watch 2010, underwritten by the National Association of College Stores. The only thing that makes it worse? According to U.S. PIRG, textbook prices have increased at a rate of four times inflation since 1994.
